A sociological film on migrants in Morocco, Ceuta and Calais
« We search in all directions, towards the water or the fence. My dream is to be in Europe » explains a migrant from Guinea-Conakry. Europe at all costs is a film in progress about sub-Saharan migrants and their unshakable dream to reach Europe.
Based on ongoing research on EU migration policies, the film argues that the more Europe create spaces of immobility to stop migration, such as the border of Ceuta or the one in Calais, the more migrants defies it through mobility.
Filmed in various sites of passage, in Morocco and in Europe, the documentary provides unique testimonies of migrants dreaming to reach Europe.
The main argument that I'll develop in this presentation by using excerpts from the film is that the externalization of European border and migration control to third countries triggers migrant's desire to be on the move and to find decent living and working conditions further down their journey.
