This workshop proposes to help doctoral students and young researchers in the preparation and the writing of a scientific article which integrates a reflection on the images and which is intended for a academic journal in visual methods, either in English (eg Visual Studies, Visual Methodologies) or in French (Revue française des méthodes visuelles). More generally, the workshop can provide support for a relevant and rigorous integration of images into a scientific article in the social sciences. The coaching will be personalized and may assist different stages: review of the specialized literature in visual methods, analysis of visual data, articulation of text and images, writing of a methodological and reflexive chapter, formatting images according to the standards of the journal, etc.
Although the writing activity requires sometimes isolation, we provide the opportunity for participants to collectively discuss their writing process with their peers and with experienced researchers in visual methods. The result may be the advancement (or finalization) of an individual article, but we can also support the initiation of innovative writing projects (for example between researcher and photographer or filmmaker).
The workshop will provide short but intensive support, to help design an article plan, solve a blocking situation or finalize an article to be submitted.
Each day will be planned in order to free up a maximum of working time and allow the advancement of the draft article. Depending on the projects and interest of the participants, keynote speakers may be invited to intervene punctually to provide specific advice.
